Pioneering Different Paths

At Taos Charter School, our ethos is embodied in one word: Pathfinding. It’s more than just a title; it’s a journey of discovery, innovation, and growth. As the Home of the Pathfinders, we light the way for education, nurturing each student as they carve their own route.

  • We strive to ensure each student can achieve their highest potential while fostering and developing the basis for a lifelong love of learning. To this end, teachers focus on building a safe, predictable, interactive learning environment.

  • We celebrate the arts as part our curriculum for its ability to foster creativity, communication, and emotional well-being. Each class has art once a week.

  • We offer a daily bilingual program to develop bi-literacy in English and Spanish in grades K - 8.

  • Our school is unusual in that we offer daily Physical Education classes — we believe for students to excel they must also be physically active. Thanks to our gymnasium, PE Class can be held indoors during cold, rain, high wind or deep snow. Coach Brian Van Nevel leads students through a blend of fitness and fun to impart the significance of discipline, teamwork, and resilience — key attributes for true pathfinders.

  • Taos Charter School's Special Education Program aims to ensure students with disabilities receive the essential support and services they need. Aligned with New Mexico’s standards for special education, our program emphasizes individualized education plans (IEPs), comprehensive support services, and collaboration with families.

Our program's highlights include personalized IEPs tailored to each student's unique needs, comprehensive support services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and counseling, and a strong emphasis on collaboration with families for the development and monitoring of IEPs.

In keeping with our commitment to inclusion, students are educated in the least restrictive environment, with access to general education classes whenever possible.

  • Pathfinding is as much an inward journey as it is outward. Our focus on social-emotional learning ensures students are emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and self-aware. By understanding themselves, they're better equipped to understand the world.

Collaborative Spaces

Our spaces are designed for interaction, discussion, and collaboration. Whether it's the modern classrooms, the buzzing library, or our open courtyards, or gymnasium, every corner fosters connections and intellectual exchange.
