Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Chrissy Streit grew up visiting family in New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico where she started off as an Art Major but eventually found her place in the Education Department. It was a perfect fit. Chrissy graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. After working for Taos Municipal Schools as a substitute for several years, she took a step away from education to raise a family and start Taos Fly Shop with her husband. When her two children began attending Taos Charter School, Mrs. Streit reentered the world of education, first as a volunteer librarian for the school, then as a part time literacy aide, and finally as the fifth grade teacher. It has been a dream come true.
Chrissy’s philosophy of education is, “If I am not having fun and feeling engaged, then the students won’t either.” She believes learning should be based on exciting topics, hands-on projects, and enriching experiences. When not in the classroom, Chrissy is in the mountains surrounding Taos, hiking and camping with her family.
