The 2016 Taos Holiday Season officially kicks off with the annual lighting of the Town Christmas tree during the 30th Annual Yuletide Caroling and Tree Lighting on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Taos Plaza. Join our Mayor Dan Barrone and community.
Michael Dean will be the MC.
Entertainment includes: Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Light Farolitos, Welcome by Town Manager Rick Bellis, Richard Archuleta, Taos Pueblo War Chief, and Benito M. Sandoval, Taos Pueblo Governor, offer a Prayer and Holiday Greetings, Mariachi Jaguar Encantado, Taos Community Chorus, Taos Middle School and Taos High School Band, Taos Middle School and Taos High School Chorus, Xtreme Cheer, TISA Choir, Electric Light Parade, Teonantli Danza Azteca, Fiestas de Taos Royal Court Introduction and Holiday Greetings, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Choir, Mayor Dan Barrone Holiday Greetings, and Countdown to Tree Lighting. Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrives on the fire truck at 4:00 PM and will be handling out 350 stockings filled with treats donated by Taos Optimist Club Elves. During the Electric Light Parade Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be joining the parade. During that short time Santa will not be available for pictures. Take your picture with Santa! If you would like a 2 1/2 x 4 photo, the cost will be $3.00 for 1 or 2 pictures for $5.00. Glow in the dark items will be available for purchase for .50¢. Proceeds benefit the Town of Taos Employee Recognition Team. Get your fresh 22” mixed evergreen wreath for $25.00. Proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts.
Edu@Work Café from Taos High School will be providing the food concession. The menu includes: Posole with Pork and Red Chile – $7, Green Chile Corn Chowder – for Vegetarians -$5. Hot entrees will be served with whole wheat flour tortillas, gluten free Chile and Chowder. Pumpkin rolls will be available for – 1/2 size $8, Full size $16 and Coffee for $1.50.
On April 12, 2016, the Taos Town Council voted to support the 30th Annual Yuletide Caroling and Tree Lighting event and to allow the closure of the Taos Plaza to vehicular traffic.
Taos Plaza will be closed from noon to 9:00 PM; however, the Taos Plaza Merchants will be open to foot traffic. FREE event parking will be available at our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Loretto Parking Lot, Town Hall, and Taos Public Library. AFTER 5:00 PM all metered parking lots will be free. For handicapped parking and for people requiring ADA access to the event, there will be extra parking at Guadalupe Parking Lot and the area next to the McCarthy Parking Lot directly behind the old County Courthouse.
