2nd Grade Homework Week of 9/14

September 14, 2015

Last week we finished reading Charlotte’s Web and an assignment went home with students.  This is in addition to the regular homework, however, next week I will give a reduced homework packet so that students have time to finish up the project.  Students have been given the assignment to make a diorama (or some 3 dimensional project) depicting their favorite part of the story.  The project is due on Thursday, September 24th.  The title of the book, the author, and the student’s name should be included somewhere on the project.  Students can provide a brief description of the scene they chose for extra credit.  Students will be presenting their project to the class.  If students are in need of supplies, please contact me.

Homework for the week is as follows:  Reading log – attached and is due back on Monday, September 21st.  Both spelling and grammar homework are due on Thursday, September 17th.  A spelling list of this week’s sight words is attached.  Students should complete the word search activity and write each spelling word three times each.  They should then choose 3 of the spelling words and write a complete sentence for those 3 chosen words (for a total of 3 sentences).   A grammar packet on proper nouns is also included.

Math homework is basic fact practice.  There are 2 pages, (double sided).  We are working on addition and subtraction concepts in class.  In addition, we are reviewing skills such as time, money, and temperature.  Students do not need to start the math homework until Thursday and it is due back on Monday, September 21st. Students can begin it right away if they choose as this is all review, but it does not have to be started before Thursday.

Reminder………..Back to School night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th from 5:00-7:00.  I will go over the curriculum for 2nd grade, homework policy and where to find the homework assignment in the event you misplace the weekly newsletter, the school-wide “Staying Green” behavior plan, early release days, and volunteer opportunities.  I will also have a sign-up for conferences and for our Halloween party. If you cannot attend please let me know so I can find a way to share this valuable information with you.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
