Brian (Coach) Van Nevel was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Taos at the age of ten. After graduating from Taos High School, he attended New Mexico State University where he received his degree in Physical Education and Recreation. He came back to Taos and spent four years working for the Town of Taos Recreation department. In 2000 he began teaching Physical Education at Taos Charter School and is one of three original staff members remaining.
As the PE teacher, Brian thinks it’s important to get kids moving, develop motor skills, and learn lots of fun and new games. He also thinks it’s good just to get outside and go for a walk, which is why he does walking Wednesday every week. His philosophy is all about participation and effort. If you try and do your best, then you will succeed in his class.
In 2012, Brian got married to his lovely wife Alison Mcpartlon and in 2014 they had a beautiful girl named Hadley. He was a raft guide for twenty years and has been hunting, fishing, and skiing since he was 10 years old. Brian really enjoys the outdoors, and this is why he makes his home in Taos.
